This smooth gray barked smallish tree is very pretty. It’s hard to describe the structure of it, but it’s vase shaped and … it’s just so smooth! It’s plenty hardy, although you might see it listed as a zone 5. We had it planted in the lowest spot where we could admire it daily and it lived for years, eventually succumbing to a flood, but even then after a year of thinking it was dead, it leafed out again and lived for a few more years. Until another flood. Then it was done.
Ours never got very very tall, but I did see one planted outside of Rolling Ground that was tall and almost like a serpent in its smooth undulating limbs.
There is also a pink flowering variety. I’m not carrying that tree as I do believe in it’s zone 5 listing, but in town? Hmmm I’d be tempted …
