And then there are perennials that look like shrubs but are best grown as herbaceous – meaning that they can be cut to the ground each season, so they grow entirely on new wood. This is one of those plants. It looks like a little hydrangea!
I saw a grouping of this planted at a local nursery last year and loved it. And it was swarmed with butterflies so it was even more beautiful. It spreads and naturalizes slowly but can be contained easily. Grows about 3′ tall.
