I appreciate this tree a lot in when the leaves are off! The trunks, especially when middle aged, are fantastically muscle-like. It is a slow growing tree with small birch like leaves. It can grow in a lot of shade, or understory, and it likes great soil that holds moisture. Maybe will get 30-50′ but will take a very long time.
