Prunus maackia

This tree really does look like this. We had one, a really mature one, down in the bottomland, and people would be astounded at its beauty – it’s like stretched shiny copper. It was killed by a flood, but we left it standing, holding on to its color for years.

I have one growing now, and it’s just starting to get great character. It is a smallish tree – around 30′, and cherry-type flowers in early summer.
